URBAN NATURE

--

Print Workshop

Independent Project
Site: Rotterdam, Netherlands

The print workshop is located in a historic urban fabric, which means that the overall context of the surrounding environment is quite important. Thus, the new design for our site should be more like a garden, and  give a landscape feeling especially for the residents who view the site above the first floor. Inspired by the space structure of normal village, I endeavor to achieve a feeling of random and informal experience.

I. Another Layer of Landscape

Site Plan /Another layer of Landscape

In the surrounding blocks, the space in the core is acturally the negative space, or precisely speaking, the garden and public space containing various activities. Thus, the new design for our site should be more like a garden, and  give a landscape feeling especially for the residents who view the site above the first floor. Inspired by the space structure of normal village, I endeavor to achieve a feeling of random and informal experience.

Double Column System

1. for Rain water management: put rain pipe in-between the double column system to gain a simple and pure load bearing feeling of the coincidence of white roof and brown structure. 2. for Ventilation: make narrow vent gap in between the double column system.

Beam Typology

Wooden structure is used in this design, which contributes to give a lively feeling for people who use the building. Moreover, the material of wood truly comes from the nature, which easily find the harmony with the surrouding plants.
